Disruption VS Opportunity: Kiwi businesses in the face of chaos

New Zealand is charting a course into the digital landscape. The changes are coming quickly, with some sources recommending companies adapt within the next 2 years: NZ firms have less than two years to adopt digital before disruption hits. This may seem extreme to many, however it's not as impossible as you might think. Below we've consolidated a list of additional resources that you may find helpful.

MBIE released the New Zealand Small Business Strategy  in July 2019. It may look like a daunting read, but it's worth knowing where your business could or should be going in order to keep afloat according to leaders and government strategies. Recommendations are heavily focused on digitisation of kiwi businesses, not only for smarter data, but because of the value it adds for any company that want's to remain competitive.

As an isolated country full of well educated, intelligent and innovative people, we have been ahead of the curve across cultural and technological advancement in many cases. The current emergencies are no exception, with New Zealand taking bold initiatives to protect against the exponential spread of infection that other countries have seen.

Disruption VS opportunity:

Safe to say there is plenty of disruption going on at the moment, and sadly not the fun sort that Silicon Valley folks like to talk about. With choppy waters ahead, businesses are realizing how much they’ll need to adapt in order to survive.

Big and small, companies are being hit hard. With looming quarantines limiting working in a physical office, digital collaboration and management is a must.

This is a valuable opportunity for businesses and leaders to realistically consider how they would manage extreme events and circumstances. New Zealand is peppered with volcanoes, and directly vulnerable to earthquakes. Engin was conceived when our founders were directly involved supporting Christchurch after the earthquakes, and we’ve seen how damaging this can be.
Successful business is all about managing risk.

The world has seen work forces slowly move towards cloud-based systems over the last few years. There has also been growing popularity of distributed work forces and more flexible working from home options. Despite this increase, the majority of businesses are still running a little behind these trends, and do not have the infrastructure or experience for a smooth transition into the remote workplace demanded by COVID-19. Don’t worry if this is you.

The goal is to keep as many businesses operational as possible. Remote work could be essential for teams in the coming months, and this pandemic may last for a long time. Here are some helpful articles to guide and inform your strategy for the immediate and long term future:

The Opportunity

These digitisation trends have been on the rise for a while, and we are now being forced to prioritise action in the face of global emergency. The benefits  and trends of digitisation are still just as relevant. This may be a situation where we pull up our collective sleeves, and make some lemonade.

Engin is here to help. While some teams will need a complete solution, there will be others who’s entire operations are being ground to a halt by a few minor functions that aren’t currently available in their current systems. The need for fast and effective fixes was yesterday, and we are working round the clock to support those who need it.

We believe it's important to share in times of need, from knowledge to hand sanitizer. While we could never foresee this terrible circumstance, we have been keenly aware of how valuable democratized data and collaborative systems can be. Whether you need support, advice, or a partner to go digital with, reach out if there is anything we can do to help you and your business.
